Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is divided into four Modules: Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation, Distress Tolerance, and Interpersonal Effectiveness skills.

This modality is wonderful because it teaches coping skills to handle painful and intense emotions better and effectively implements conflict assertiveness skills. DBT has skills that are helpful for everyone, but specifically:

  • Self-harm

  • Eating disorders

  • Substance abuse

  • Personality disorders

  • People who have trouble controlling their emotions

  • People with complex family relationships

  • People who struggle with their friendships

  • People who struggle to be assertive

  • People who want to be more present
